The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a fresh crackdown on the unauthorised use of sirens, tinted vehicle glasses, unregistered vehicles, and fake or covered number plates across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent Nafiu Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Bello M. Sani.

According to the statement, the directive is in line with the ongoing national campaign against the abuse of diplomatic and special number plates, as well as the illegal use of vehicle accessories meant only for top public office holders and emergency services.

‘The order banning the unauthorised use of sirens, tinted vehicle glasses, unregistered vehicles, and covered number plates remains in full effect’, the command emphasised.

The command highlighted that only the following categories are permitted by law to use sirens: the President and Vice President, leadership of the National Assembly, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, State Governors and their Deputies, as well as the military, police, paramilitary agencies, fire service, ambulances, and bullion vans with escorts.

In light of this, the Commissioner of Police has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical units across the state to identify, arrest, and prosecute violators. Any vehicle found in contravention will be impounded, along with illegal sirens and fake number plates’.

Bello also used the opportunity to appeal to the peace-loving people of Kebbi State to support the police in enforcing order and maintaining public safety.

He warned that anyone found guilty of violating the directive would face strict sanctions in accordance with the law.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, urging residents to report suspicious movements and illegal activities to the nearest police station.
