The Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Karimi, has again donated another N11m for the rehabilitation of the Lokoja Fish Market cold room.
In an interview on Monday, the lawmaker noted, “The gesture is aimed at empowering women to be self-reliant and enable them to store their wares when necessary.
“Consequently, another trench of N11 million has been released for the rehabilitation of the cold room to enhance its storage capacity.”
Recall that the Lokoja Fish Cold Room constructed by the late Buba Jubril has been begging for attention over the years.
Karimi had in December released the sum of N11m for its immediate rehabilitation and also for the provision of solar street lights in and around the cold room.
The fish cold room project is being supervised by Lokoja Local Government stakeholders, under the leadership of a former Member of the House of Representatives, Haruna Isah.
The Lokoja Fish Cold Room project is a project that is wholly financed by Karimi who assured that he will continue to do all that is humanly possible to provide succour for the women of Lokoja LGA.
In his remarks, Haruna said the work is progressing speedily and expressed the appreciation of the market community to Senator Karimi for coming to the aid of the women.
Similarly, Hajia Ramatu Lami, a fish seller, said when completed, the cold room will help in preserving their wares adding that the gesture is timely and a relief to the women in the market.
