Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has described as the end of a great era the death of Alhaji Aliyu Alarape Salman, describing it as the exit of a great man who made huge contributions to the community and the state.

The governor sent his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Senior Advocate of  Nigeria (SAN), a one-time Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, and respected leader of the Ilorin community.

AbdulRazaq also commiserated with the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on the development, recalling the meritorious service of the late sage to Ilorin, the state as a whole, and to the law profession.

He asked Allaah to forgive and admit the former IEDPU President to al-jannah Firdaus and preserve all his heirs and the community on the path of goodness and righteousness.

Similarly, IEDPU’s National President, Alhaji AbdulMumini Ayo AbdulMalik expressed profound sadness on the death of one of his predecessors, which occurred earlier on Sunday.

In a statement by the union’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahiim, the IEDPU President said that the union received the news of the death of the prominent legal luminary with rude shock, saying that he was truly an illustrious predecessor..

He described the late elder statesman as an outstanding legal practitioner and a foremost patriot, saying that Salman was one of those whose contributions to the development of Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and Nigeria would continue to be cherished.

The IEDPU President recalled the days of Salman in the leadership of the Ilorin Descendants Students Union and IEDPU, saying that the decision of the deceased to resign his appointment as the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Kwara State solely for the projection and protection of the corporate interests of Ilorin Emirate in 1978 would never be forgotten.

He added that Salman, who was a former Vice President of the NBA, also brought glory and honour to Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State as he emerged as the first state-based SAN in 1987.

The IEDPU President also said that the union would continue to celebrate Salman’s role in the establishment of Ilorin Grammar School and his services as the Chairman of Ilorin Community Bank (now Ilorin Microfinance Bank), among others.

AbdulMalik sympathised with the Emir of Ilorin, the committee of past National Presidents of the IEDPU, the Nigerian Bar Association and his family as hev prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings.
