The Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, 14 February, 2026, outlining routes to be affected and movement restrictions for motorists.

In a statement on Wednesday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government said the traffic measures are necessary to ensure the smooth conduct of the marathon, which will feature both 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre races taking place simultaneously.

The statement said, ‘The First, 42-kilometre race, will commence at Ahmadu Bello (By MRS Gas Station) route and run through the entire stretch of the Coastal Road, which is the end point of the race’.

It added, ‘The Second, 10-kilometre race, will cover Durosimi Etti (Lekki Phase 1), the starting point and run through Ozumba Mbadiwe to Bishop Oluwole to Akin Adesola and Sanusi Fafunwa, which is the end point’.

The government stated that ‘in line with the traffic management plan, all affected adjoining Roads, Junctions and Intersections along race one and two will be blocked from 12.00 am and 12.30 pm on Saturday, 14th February, 2026’, noting that the roads ‘will be opened intermittently to Motorists as the race progresses’.

To enforce the restriction, the statement said, ‘all affected adjoining roads will be manned by LASTMA, and other security agencies to prevent other road users’ access to the main race corridor’.

Osiyemi reassured residents that ‘Traffic Management Officials will be strategically positioned to help motorists navigate their journeys’, while urging Lagosians to plan ahead by making use of alternative routes and other modes of transportation.

The statement further advised that ‘Motorists are implored to be patient as the partial closure is part of the traffic management plans for the 11th Edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Race 2026’.
