The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has commended the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, for facilitating the upgrade and reconstruction of the popular Femi Gbajabiamila Clinic in Surulere to an ultramodern multi-floor 60-bed Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital.

The hospital, which is equipped with advanced and specialist care facilities, is located on Iyun Road, Surulere, Lagos.

Speaking on Sunday after an inspection tour of the hospital, which is scheduled to be unveiled soon, the health commissioner expressed satisfaction with the architectural design as well as the fit-for-purpose model created by the project manager, a statement said on Monday.

Abayomi expressed optimism about the contribution of the facility to the health sector in the state and the well-being of Lagos residents.

He noted that adding 60 beds to the public health facilities amid the critical shortage of bed space in Lagos for its burgeoning population was significant.

Enumerating the hospital’s state-of-the-art features including radiology, a large laboratory, paediatric, physiotherapy, surgical, and X-ray facilities, Abayomi expressed confidence in its potential to substantially enhance the well-being of the constituency’s residents.

The commissioner expressed enthusiasm about integrating the facility into Lagos’ roster of General Hospitals and commended the quality and construction of the hospital.

He added, “We are anticipating a positive reception from both the Governor Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, regarding this significant addition to public health facilities”.

While appreciating Gbajabiamila for the facility, Abayomi acknowledged the President’s Chief of Staff’s “immense contribution and foresight in facilitating the establishment of this hospital”, assuring that the facility would be optimally utilised for the benefit of all residents of Lagos.

The health commissioner was accompanied on the inspection tour of the facility by the Permanent Secretary of Health Service Commission, Dr Ademuyiwa Eniayewun; the Medical Director, Randle General Hospital, Surulere, Dr Olumide Sojinrin; Director, Projects, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr Oduwole and Director Clinical Service and Training, HSC, Dr Olawale Adegbite.
