Lagos/Ibadan road: Young man dies as upturned truck causes traffic gridlock

A young man died in a traffic accident on Tuesday morning, which involved an upturned loaded truck at Otedola Bridge, Ojodu Berger, Lagos State.

The accident resulted in traffic congestion inward Lagos/Ibadan Expressway and Ojodu Berger as the bridge is flooded.

In its situation report, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said that the “young adult male, who happens to be one of the occupants of the truck, fell off the bridge and lost his life”.

According to the report by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA, on arrival at the incident scene, the agency’s team discovered that a truck with unknown registration number was involved in a solitary accident.

“Further information gathered at the scene revealed that, the truck, while descending the hill from Mobil filling station inward Otedola was trying to avoid collusion with another vehicle, lost control and crashed into the side of the bridge.

“The driver compartment was found hanging down the bridge with some of the product (wheat) all over the road blocking the entire route under the bridge inward Otedola estate”, Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also said that efforts are on to remove the truck from the road.

“A fatal accident involving an upturned loaded (wheat) truck that has taken a lane on Otedola bridge inward Ojodu Berger. Traffic is a bit slow coupled with the flooded portion on the bridge.

“Effort is on for the recovery of the contents and the truck from the road”, LASTMA said via its X handle.

LASEMA said its crane has been dispatched for “swift recovery of the impediment”.
