Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has issued a 48-hour abatement notice to Oyingbo market executives over indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions.

This was disclosed in a statement on X.com by the Commissioner for the ministry, Tokunbo Wahab, on Friday.

This development was said to have followed an inspection carried out at the market by the Lagos Waste Management Authority on Wednesday.

Wahab’s caption read, “Lagos State government through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources served 48 hours abatement notice to Oyingbo market executives over indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions.”

The commissioner also shared the image of the notice titled “Abatement Of Nuisance Notice Under Environmental Sanitation Law 2001”

It partly read, “Inspection carried out under the above-mentioned Law on tenement situated at Oyingbo Market, within Lagos State on 26/06/24 has revealed that you have failed to keep your tenement and its surrounding free from filth, rubbish, refuse or waste of all description and indiscriminate refuse disposal”

Earlier in January, the Lagos State Government sealed the Oke-Afa market in Isolo and the Katangua market in Abule Egba for violating waste disposal regulations.

Wahab had also emphasized the government’s zero tolerance for indiscriminate waste disposal, warning that any market or facility engaging in reckless waste disposal would be sanctioned.
