The Lagos State Police Command said it has given permanent contact numbers to the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the Divisions and Area Commands in the state.
This was contained in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday.
According to the statement, the purpose of assigning permanent phone numbers to DPO offices is to ensure seamless communication between citizens and law enforcement officers at all times. It added that the initiative will also grant direct access to current DPOs across police stations in a bid to prevent communication barriers when the officers are redeployed.
It read in part, “The Lagos State Police Command, in a remarkable move to provide a more stable channel of communication between the public and the police, has acquired hundreds of telephone lines to be permanently assigned to the offices of Divisional Police Officers and other strategic officers.
“This move phases out the old era where the personal phone numbers of these strategic officers are used for official communication/assignments, resulting in a communication barrier whenever these officers are redeployed. With the new arrangement, numbers remain permanently attached to particular offices such that with the redeployment of the occupants of such officers, the phone numbers remain the same”.
The State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, commended the leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee for providing the desktop phones for the use of the newly introduced phone lines while adding that the “gesture will go a long way in consolidating the commitment of the Command in engaging with communities and creating a safer environment for everyone in the state”.
