The Lagos State Government has shut down a public toilet facility located at the Mazamaza bus stop in Amuwo-Odofin over the illegal discharge of sewage and wastewater into public drainage channels.

The action was confirmed on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through a statement shared on his official X account.

According to the commissioner, officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office sealed the facility on 25 February 2026, after discovering that raw sewage and wastewater were being pumped directly into a public drainage system.

He said the practice constituted a public nuisance, caused environmental pollution, and posed a serious threat to public health.

Wahab noted that the enforcement exercise was part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb environmental violations and protect residents from health risks associated with poor sanitation practices.

He urged residents and facility operators to comply with approved wastewater management and hygiene standards, warning that environmental infractions would continue to attract sanctions and possible prosecution.

The commissioner added that safeguarding public health and environmental sustainability remains a top priority of the Lagos State Government, stressing that acts capable of degrading the environment would not be tolerated.
