The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos will host both the men’s and women’s President Federation Cup finals for the second consecutive year on Saturday, 28 June.
This year’s final features surprise package Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi taking on Kwara United of Ilorin in the men’s final while defending champions Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt will face Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia in the women’s decider.
Abakaliki’s journey to the final has been nothing short of remarkable. The Nigeria National League bottom side have continued their giant-killing run by eliminating top-flight opposition at every stage.
Their semi-final victory came after a tense penalty shoot-out win over Nigeria Premier Football League side Ikorodu City at the Bwari Township Stadium. The match ended goalless in regulation time before Abakaliki held their nerve to win 5-4 on penalties.
Their path to the final saw them overcome Katsina United on penalties in the round of 32, then stun nine-time NPFL champions Enyimba 2-0 in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals, they edged Nasarawa United 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
The semi-final win against Ikorodu City confirms Abakaliki’s status as giant killers and sets up their maiden Federation Cup final appearance.
Kwara United also booked their first-ever final appearance with a 1-0 victory over six-time champions Rangers in the second semi-final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
On the women’s side, Rivers Angels aim to defend the coveted trophy against two-time champions Nasarawa Amazons in a much-anticipated repeat of the 2019 edition.
The Lafia Landladies enter the final on the back of a strong performance in the 2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six playoff, where they finished second place, one point behind Bayelsa Queens, after defeating Rivers Angels 2-1 in the ante-penultimate matchday.
