Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has urged Lagosians to turn out in large numbers to re-elect Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in the 11 March governorship election. This, he explained, is to allow the administration continue to build on the numerous successes being presently enjoyed in the state.
At the B.O.S for Participatory Governance Stakeholders’ Meeting held at Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government on Friday, Hamzat said that the state would have more benefits by voting massively for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
He noted that since the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is now the President-elect, Lagos residents needed to do more to ensure that the APC candidates emerge winners in the the next week’s elections for the state to align with “a man that has been a governor of the state, who knows, understands and will assist the state the more in tackling her challenges. Therefore, it can have more benefits for people living and residing in Lagos State”.
While berating the low turnout of voters during the last presidential election, the deputy governor called on the people to come out as there would not be any violence during the election. He stressed that the election is not a matter of fighting but simply for people to come out and exercise their civic responsibilities, monitor their votes and ensure that no one is harassed.
He said: “On 11 March, don’t be scared, some people said they were scared and that was why they did not vote in the presidential election. There will be no violence. We are not fighting anybody. It is not a fight. It is to vote and monitor your vote. So, we should go and vote. Please vote our party, APC for the governorship and House of Assembly, so that we can continue to build on the successes.
“With all the complaints, people still say Lagos is the best state in this country. That means the Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat administration is doing something right but no human being can be perfect. We understand the agitations of the citizens and the challenges faced by all and we are committed to finding solutions to them all as a government”.
Hamzat charged parents to make their children know and understand the history of the country and their society. “The best state in the country is Lagos and people that are doing their best must be rewarded through the re-election of the present administration in Lagos” he said.
Hamzat thanked everyone and God Almighty for Tinubu’s emergence as the President-elect despite all the challenges. He harped on the need for APC stakeholders to come together and work with unity of purpose to re-elect Sanwo-Olu and vote for other APC candidates.
The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, HRM Oba Fatai Aromire sued for calm and appealed to Lagosians to come out and vote for Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat as he expressed optimism that they would win the governorship election.
Stakeholders comprising ethnic groups, artisans, party faithful, traditional and religious leaders expressed their desire and determination to work and vote massively for the re-election of Sanwo-Olu and all candidates of APC for the state House of Assembly.
