The Ogun State High Court has adjourned till 16 February, 2026 for hearing on a case involving, a Chinese company, Zhi Yuan Global Nigeria Limited and some residents of Owu Adepiti Village located in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State over a landed dispute for further mention.
The civil matter regulated by the (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024 of the High Court of Ogun State was brought to court five whereby the parties put before Justice A. O. Asenuga processes they have filed.
The claimants include Rev. Reuben Adekunle and seven others, while the defendants include a Chinese company, Zhi Yuan Global Nigeria Limited and nine others, while Prof. Justus Shokefun represented the claimants, and M. E. Kolapo represented the defendants
Shokefun speaking with journalists after the proceedings explained that the parties were still in the stage of settling pleadings, adding that claimants had filed an application seeking an extension of time to respond to the defendants’ statement of defence.
The lead counsel of the claimants added that an application to substitute a party who died during the pendency of the case was filed pointing out that both applications were successfully moved in court
Shokefun confirmed that the first to third defendants had filed an application to respond to the statement of claim, while another application seeking the withdrawal of a party’s name had been filed by the defence, an application the claimants intend to oppose.
The counsel stated that the claimants prayed the court to declare the land as ancestral property inherited from their forebears, adding that the land was historically named after one of their ancestors.
The counsel to the defendants when approached by journalists to shed light on the matter, declined comments, adding that she was not interested to talk
Meanwhile, Justice Asenuga, after listening to both the claimants and defence counsels adjourned the matter to 16 February 2026 for further mention
