The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has pledged its commitment to enhancing air quality in Lagos.

The agency restated it while giving an update on the Air Quality Index (AQI) captured in Lagos on Monday.

The AQI tracks ozone (smog) and particle pollution (tiny particles from smoke, power plants and factories, vehicle exhaust, and other sources), as well as other air pollutants.

In an infographic released via its X handle, @LasepaOfficial, the agency noted that the air captured around Moloney Street, Lagos Island, UNILAG Research Laboratory, NIMET, Oshodi, Alimosho and Gbagada General Hospital fell between 10 and 7.5 measured in microgramme per cubic metre.

The air status in the areas was categorised as good while Mende and Agege areas with 16.2 and 21.5 were tagged moderate.

While Bariga area with 50.9 fell in the category of “unhealthy”.

LASEPA said while the air quality might not be optimal, “rest assured that LASEPA is working tirelessly to enhance the state’s air quality”.

According to the American Lung Association, the Air Quality Index is the system used to warn the public when air pollution is dangerous.
