About 250 youths drawn from the Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency in Osun State, have commenced vocational training under an initiative sponsored by the lawmaker representing the constituency, Mr. Adekunle Oladimeji.

The beneficiaries, undergoing training in vocations that include tailoring, furniture making, Information Communication Technology training, welding, among others, according to the lawmaker, would be further empowered to make them earn a decent living through their skills.

In a statement by him in Osogbo on Tuesday, Oladimeji while declaring the training open at the Osun SDGs Skill Acquisition Centre, Dagbolu, Osogbo, said the initiative was aimed at alleviating poverty and addressing the high unemployment rate in his constituency.

Oladimeji, who also serves as the Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly, subsequently reaffirmed his commitment to creating sustainable platforms for human capacity development for his constituents.

He said, ‘The current reality in our society calls for self-reliance. Through this programme, we are giving our young people the tools they need to build meaningful livelihoods and contribute positively to the economy.

‘The beneficiaries 250 in number must take full advantage of the opportunity and be dedicated and consistent to enjoy the vision behind this initiative’.

Vocational training for the youths appears to be the new approach towards tackling joblessness among them, following emphasis on the acquisition of skills by different public office holders in recent times to ease the high unemployment rate.
