At least three persons have been reportedly killed in Agasha, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, following lightning that occurred during a downpour.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday when the victims were returning from their farm at about 4 pm.
According to a source in the area, the victims included two girls and a six-year-old boy who decided to return home following a heavy downpour.
The source said: “The two girls and the about six-year-old boy were on the farm to harvest produce for the family when the heavy rain started Wednesday around 4 pm.
“They decided to return home. It was while on their way that they were struck by the lightning near their house.
“People ran for safety when the lightning struck but it was discovered that three of them were unfortunate and were affected. They died on the spot. Their bodies have been recovered by the family members”.
Efforts by DAILY POST to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Catherine Anene, proved abortive as of press time.
