Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Tuesday, inaugurated a newly built motor park and 540 shops at Bodija market in Ibadan.
The governor also ordered the evacuation of roadside traders around the Bodija market, directing that they should be allocated shops.
Makinde said that the construction of the shops and park reflected his administration’s commitment to restoring order and improving the trading environment at the market.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the shops and park was constructed by the Ibadan North Local Government.
The governor said the shops were built through the commonwealth of the people of Ibadan North LG.
He urged the traders not to trade on the roadside again, stressing ‘roadside trading is against the environmental law and regulations of the state’.
The Chairman, Ibadan North LG, Mr Seun Olufade commended the governor for his unwavering commitment to people-centered governance.
Onifade stressed that the project stood as a further proof of the governor’s dedication to improving the lives of residents and the people of Oyo state.
The Chairman, Traders Association in Oyo State, Alhaji Yekeen Abbas, thanked the governor for the construction of the park and shops, urging the traders to desist from roadside trading.
Abbas also expressed gratitude to Makinde for creating a conducive environment and ensuring ease of doing business in the state.
