Carrick’s position came under intense scrutiny following United’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, a result that left the club 16th in the Premier League table and extended their winless run to eight matches in all competitions.
However, the club’s hierarchy, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, held discussions on Monday and agreed to give Carrick and his players additional time to turn the team’s fortunes around.
The 45-year-old returned to training on Tuesday as United began preparations for their Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
Carrick will now look to improve the team’s form and secure better results as the club seeks to recover from its difficult run of performances.
