At least 25 people have been reported dead on Tuesday along Ojo-Iwo Road of Ibadan-Lagos expressway, around Agbowo/Ajao area when a trailer loaded with roofing sheets collided with 18 seaters hummer bus, a Micra taxi and Honda CR-V car.
Some of the motorists that witnessed the accident told our correspondent, Oluwasemillore Ige that the trailer lost it’s break and rammed into the 3 vehicles involved plying the same 2-way traffic.
Narrating the accident, Mr. Emmanuel Omotoso and Mrs. Funmi Adejumo told Radio Nigeria the ongoing construction of the Lagos -Ibadan expressway could be responsible for the fatality as the other lane of the expressway was blocked.
It took the efforts of private heavy towing vehicles for the trapped vehicles to be removed.
Some of the passengers have been rescued and rushed to hospital for medical attention.
However, the motorists appealed to Oyo State government to purchase heavy towing vehicles and ambulance buses for rescue operation in case of emergency situation like it happened this morning.
As at time of filing this report, heavy traffic is at along Ojo-Iwo Road and officials of Federal Road Safety Corps are expected to join men of Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC and Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency to ease logjam currently been experienced there.
The motorists therefore called on the contractor handling the road construction to open up the other lane that was blocked to prevent future occurrence of accident that claims many lives every day on Ojo-Iwo Road expressway.
