Efforts by the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resolve the issues between the party leadership and the group of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike have not yielded desired result.
The meeting on ended inconclusively.
Wike and his supporters, among whom are Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Benue State counterpart, are demanding that the National Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu should step down since the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is from the North, like Atiku.
The Acting Chairman of the BoT, Senator Adolphus Wabara, however said that the seven-member BoT, who met with the Governor at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, achieved some progress.
After about five hours of discussion, Wabara said: “We have not concluded. Making peace is difficult. But we have heard from his side. The family remains one. We shall achieve peace very soon.
“We have not concluded. You know it is always easy to discuss. But to make peace takes sometime.
“We are better informed. We have gotten some new information. Every coin has two sides. In concrete terms, it is work in progress”.
The PDP launched its 2023 presidential campaign last week without the Wike group involved, in keeping with its earlier vow.
