The St. Louis African University, Benin Republic at the weekend conferred a honorary Doctorate degree of Science on the President of the African Sports Journalist Union, Mitchel Obi.
Dr Obi is also the Vice President of International Sports Press Association (AIPS, Africa).
Obi was conferred with D.Sc Hons in Sports Media Management, Administration and Marketing by the privately-owned institution.
The award comes as part of the university’s 2022 programme to honour distinguished Africans, who have excelled in various fields and with the aim to encourage more excellence and to acknowledge the outstanding contributions in academic, business, political, social, religious and humanitarian in the advancement of humanity and African development.
A sports media professional of repute, Obi was Special Adviser to the Minister of Youth and Sports, as well as Transport; and Sports Editor of The Guardian, Editor of the now defunct evening publication, Guardian Express, and acting editor of The Guardian on Sunday, among others.
