The Nasarawa State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has approved about N1 billion for the purchase of basic equipment for primary healthcare centres across the state’s 13 local government areas of the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Usman Saleh, announced this on Tuesday in Lafia during a media chat marking his one-year anniversary in office.
He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for exceeding expectations in the health sector, noting that 82 PHCs have been revitalised to ensure accessible healthcare for residents across all LGAs.
Saleh said the government’s efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s national guideline, which mandates that every electoral ward in Nigeria should have at least one functional PHC.
He added that Governor Sule personally visited several upgraded PHCs across the three senatorial zones.
During a visit to a facility in Wamba LGA, the governor expressed satisfaction and promised further improvements for the people.
Saleh also outlined the cadre of the recently recruited 681 PHC staff, who will serve in facilities statewide.

They include doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacy technicians, health information management technicians, and community healthcare extension workers.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Sule for promptly releasing counterpart funds of about N39 million to support the upcoming Measles-Rubella vaccination programme, scheduled to be flagged off in October.
‘To that effect, about 82 revitalised primary healthcare centres have been successfully completed and are now functional’, he said.
‘Also, you cannot have functional primary healthcare or infrastructure without qualified personnel. Before my appointment, Governor Sule had recruited 1,586 staff for the Primary Healthcare Development Agency. In the last three months, an additional 681 qualified staff have been recruited and will be posted to these revitalised PHCs’.
The Executive Secretary commended media practitioners for their role in creating awareness and disseminating information at the grassroots level.
He assured of the agency’s continued partnership with the media to enlighten residents about its activities and programmes.
