Nasarawa allocates N500m for CCTV to tackle insecurity

The Nasarawa State government has earmarked N500 million for the installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in Lafia, the state capital and environs.

The commissioner for finance, budget and planning, Mrs Munira Abdullahi, disclosed this while giving the breakdown of the 2024 budget in Lafia yesterday.

She said the move was part of measures aimed at tackling insecurity.

“We are going to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) in the state capital and its environs aimed at addressing prevailing trends including insecurity to pave the way for development to thrive”, she said.

The state government also had in the 2024 budget allocated N600 million for the construction of youth centres in Karu, Keana, and Nassarawa – Eggon local government areas to cater to the needs of youths in the areas.

Other planned infrastructure captured in the budget are the construction of five mini stadia at N700 million to boost sports activities in the state, dualisation of the Shendam Road Phase II at N1.350 billion, and remodeling of youth centres in the state at N500 million, among others.

Governor Abdullahi Sule had on 29 December 2023, assented to the 2024 budget tagged; “Budget of renewed commitment”, which stands at an estimated sum of N199.8 billion.

According to the 2024 budget analysis education sector took the lion’s share of N40.16 billion, followed by ministry of health N26. 71 and the ministry of women affairs got the lowest share of N909 million respectively.

Mrs Abdullahi said the present administration under the leadership of Gov Sule attached importance to accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.

“In this light, my ministry will closely monitor and track the implementation of all the projects, programmes, and policies enunciated in the fiscal year 2024 budget.

Abdullahi thanked all the stakeholders, particularly civil servants, and members of the press for their support during the last fiscal year and solicited their maximum support toward the successful implementation of the 2024 budget of Renewed Commitment.
