Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress representing Borno South, has urged the government and security agencies to quickly bring back the Brigade Commander of the 25 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Musa Uba ‘dead or alive’.
Ndume said this following the reported Boko Haram/ISWAP ambush which led to the death of two Civilian Joint Task Force members, with some troops of the North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ missing in action last week.
He also called on the government and the security agencies to intensify efforts to safely rescue all the 25 females of the Government Girls Comprehensive School, Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, abducted by terrorists in Kebbi State last Sunday.
The lawmaker stated this in a press statement by him, a copy of which was made available in Maiduguri on Thursday.
Uba was captured following a fierce operational encounter with terrorists around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Although the military authority in Abuja has since denied such claims, insisting that the Commander successfully led troops back to base, unverified video clips went viral on social media, purportedly released by terrorists, which depicted that the abducted General was executed this week.
Ndume, who was the former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, said the deteriorating security situation associated with banditry, kidnappings and terrorism in some parts of the country, especially North West and the North East sub-region, calls for serious concern which needs to be addressed holistically.
He reiterated that bringing back the Brigadier General dead or alive and safe rescue of the 25 abducted schoolgirls would minimise the rate of trauma faced by their families, friends and the general public.
‘I am compelled to issue this statement concerning the abduction and whereabouts of Brigadier General Mohammed Uba and the 25 females of the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, by terrorists.
‘Let the government and our security agencies act quickly to bring back the Brigade Commander of the 25 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Musa Uba dead or alive.
‘I also called on the government and the security agencies to intensify efforts to safely rescue all the 25 females of the Government Girls Comprehensive School, Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area that were abducted by terrorists in Kebbi State last Sunday.
‘In fact, the deteriorating security situation associated with banditry, kidnappings and terrorism in some parts of the country, especially North West and the North East sub-region, calls for serious concern which need to be addressed holistically.
‘Therefore, bringing back the Brigadier General dead or alive and safe rescue of the 25 abducted schoolgirls would minimise the rate of trauma faced by their families, friends and of course Nigerians’, Ndume stated.
While commending the sacrifices of the military and other security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram and other criminal attacks, Ndume also prayed for divine intervention in the ongoing efforts by both federal and state governments to end terrorism, kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminality across the country.
