National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State have commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2022 flood in the area.
Addressing the victims at the council headquarters in Onuebonyi, the representative of NEMA, Mr Kadiri Olanrewaju, said the distribution of the materials was to cushion the effects of the 2022 flood disaster on them.
He expressed concern that the people who are predominantly farmers had their crops destroyed and many were rendered homeless.
Olarewaju said the distribution would come in batches in order to capture all the affected victims and extolled the beneficiaries for their orderly conduct and assured them that the government will always stand by them.
The council chairman, Barr Sunday Nwankwo and the NEMA during the occasion extended the days for the distribution of the relief materials provided by the federal government to the people.
Nwankwo commended NEMA, President Bola Tinubu and the Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for assisting the victims.
He assured NEMA that the relief materials would be distributed to the affected persons drawn from the 20 electoral wards in the council.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Okechukwu Nome, thanked the federal and state governments for the gesture.
Among the items distributed to the flood Victims were bags of rice, beans, garri, sewing machines, grinding machines, stoves, matrasses, knapsack sprayers, sets of plates, mosquito nets, detergents, cooking condiments among others.
