NEMA raises flood risk awareness in South-East communities

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Tuesday, called for communities’ involvement in efforts to curtail flooding in the South-East.

Addressing the media in Enugu on steps being taken by the agency to mitigate flood disaster this year, NEMA’s Zonal Coordinator for South-East, Mrs Ngozi Echeazu said; “NEMA, through a series of meetings and sensitisation, has continued to build community education, capacity and resilience on flood mitigation efforts this year.

“These efforts include the timely opening of blocked waterways, removing structures/ or buildings on flood planes, expanding narrow waterways, among others”.

Earlier, theNigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency released their 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook, revealing states likely to be affected by floods this year.
