NFF appoints ex-Mali coach Super Eagles manager

NFF Appoints Eric Chelle As New Coach Of Super Eagles

Former coach of Mali national football team, Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle has been appointed as Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

NFF’s Executive Committee endorsed the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee at a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

Chelle, who won five caps for the Aiglons of Mali and had club coaching experience with GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne and MC Oran, and has been Head Coach of the Malian national team since 2022.

At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire, Chelle’s Mali came close to a place in the semifinals, losing to hosts and eventual winners Cote d’Ivoire 1-2 after extra time, after leading by a lone goal until the final minute of regulation time.

Nigeria went two steps further to reach the final but also lost to the Ivorien by the same margin.

Augustine Eguavoen has been both interim coach and Technical Director of the NFF.
