The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has indefinitely suspended assistant referee Aliyu Yakubu Bana following a controversial offside decision during the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash between Doma United and Enyimba.

The decision was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary of the NFF Referee Development Committee, Mohammed Ameenu, on Sunday, September 13.

Bana served as Assistant Referee 1 during Saturday’s match, which Doma United won 2-0.

According to the NFF, the official failed to properly apply the offside guidelines during the encounter, leading to the cancellation of a valid Enyimba goal.

The federation said Bana did not adhere to the “wait-and-see protocol” required when making offside decisions.

The NFF stated that the error had a direct impact on the outcome of the match.

As a result, Bana has been indefinitely suspended and removed from the league roster of referees and assistant referees for the 2026/2027 NPFL season.
