The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, Haliru Zakari Jikantoro has resigned.
He said that the resignation was voluntary and did not mean that there is a crisis in the party in the state.
After an emergency State Executive Council meeting, which he called, Jikantoro to newsmen that his resignation was in the best interest of the party and its future.
“I, on my own humbly and voluntarily, wish to resign my position as the Chairman of the party of the APC in Niger state. This is a singular intent of me resigning from my position.
“I don’t have issues with my colleagues, or even the governor. I have made a wide range of consultations before taking this decision. It is by way of adding value to the party itself. It has been adjudged that I am likely going to perform better in the future in adding value to the party. So there is no crisis, no fight, nothing. It is just a voluntary resignation and it will bring positive consequences to the government and the party”.
Jikantoro said that Alhaji Aminu Bobi would take over as the acting chairman until the state Governor convened a special congress to elect a new chairman.
