Nigeria’s Super Eagles have joined 14 other nations to book their spots in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Morocco.
In Abidjan, the Ivorian capital, the Nigerian side forced Benin Republic to 1-1 to win Group D of the final qualifying phase, having collected 11 points from five matches.
The results leave Benin Republic with having to beat Libya away on Matchday 6 on Monday to fence off Rwanda.
Other finalists include 1976 champions Morocco, Egypt, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia, all former champions.
Also heading to Morocco 2025 are Burkina Faso, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Uganda.
Top striker Victor Osimhen ensured Nigeria did not lose to Benin again with his equaliser in the 81st minutes after Mohamed Tijani had shot the hosts ahead in the 16th minute.
