Nigerian philanthropist, Joseph Ohens to receive Africa Courage Award in Holland

Dedicated to the principles of good governance, social justice, and equal opportunities for all, Dr. Joseph Adonor Ohens is set to be honoured with the prestigious Africa Courage Award on the 29th September. This remarkable recognition is being conferred by The Voice magazine, based in Almere, The Netherlands.

The accolade comes as a result of Ohens’ unwavering commitment to advocating for good governance, his impactful humanitarian endeavours, and his substantial contributions to the development of local communities.

The esteemed award will be formally bestowed upon the philanthropist, who hails from Opoji, Edo State, during the upcoming The Voice Achievers Award 2023 event. Themed ‘Harnessing Our Diversity For The Advancement of Africa’, the event is scheduled to take place on the 28th and 29th of Septembe, in Almere, The Netherlands.

Ohens’ journey in journalism took flight from 1989 to 2001 with stints at the Nigeria Observer and CityNews newspapers. His journalism career soared to new heights, eventually leading him to become the General Manager/Editor-in-Chief during the critical period of Nigeria’s return to democracy in the era of Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha.

With a relentless commitment to the ideals of good governance, social justice, and equal opportunity, Ohens embarked on a path of education and personal growth. He pursued a degree in law at the Lagos State University and continued to expand his horizons, attaining Master of Laws and Doctor of the Science of Law degrees from the esteemed University of California, Berkeley School of Law.

Ohens contributes his expertise to a major healthcare system in California’s North Coast as Senior Vice President and directly oversees his organisation’s Compliance, Risk Management, Privacy, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Credentialing, and Peer Review programmes. His commitment to education remains unwavering, as he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law, imparting knowledge in Advanced Legal Writing and United States Health System and Policy.

Ohens’ remarkable journey and contributions have not only garnered recognition but have also served as a testament to the potential of individuals to drive positive change and make a lasting impact on the world around them.
