The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed media reports of alleged plot to remove its National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Adamu was Governor of Nasarawa State between 1999 and 2007, and Senator for Nasarawa West district from 2011 until his election unopposed as National Chairman during the APC national convention in Abuja five months ago.
The report was hinged on the the campaign in some sections against the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the party for next year’s election, with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu picking a fellow Muslim, Senator Kashim Shettima as running mate. The APC National Chairman is also a Muslim.
In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, the APC said the report of the planned removal of Adamu was sponsored by the opposition.
The statement reads: “The reports are based on the imagination of its sponsors ostensibly unnerved by the remarkable achievements of Senator Adamu since assuming office as the National Chairman.
“Our party and leaders are currently focused on the important task of building a strong and vibrant electoral campaign ahead, and will not be distracted by the boring chirps of idle speculators.
“The opposition PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) is quite welcome to continue to dissipate its energies on innuendoes and chasing after phantom plots in APC rather than concentrate on mending its broken and acrimonious house.
“The National Working Committee of our party stands united under Senator Adamu’s leadership as National Chairman with the singular commitment to winning the next general election”.
