State chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) in the North Central geo-political zone have reiterated their commitment to give maximum support to the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, to enable him to take the party to greater heights.

The LP chairmen also congratulated Abure on his victory at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja which validated the March 2024 Nnewi national convention of the party and affirmed his position as the national chairman.

In a statement on Wednesday, LP National Vice Chairman (North Central Zone), Ibrahim Idoko said the court’s decision was a testament to the strength of Nigeria’s legal system and the party’s dedication to democratic principles.

Idoko, who is also the current LP chairman in Benue State, commended the presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, for issuing an order which compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to validate and recognise the Abure-led leadership of the party.

The statement read in part: “The Forum of Chairmen of the North Central, comprising Abuja, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Plateau, under the leadership of Ibrahim Idoko, the National Vice Chairman, North Central of LP wishes to congratulate our National Chairman, Julius Abure, the NWC (National Working Council), and the entire NEC (National Executive Committee) of our great party for the victory it once again got at the Federal High Court, where the court-mandated INEC to recognise the Abure-led NWC and stated that the Nnewi elective convention met all constitutional requirements of both the party and INEC electoral laws.

“The judgement on 8 October 2024 reaffirms Julius Abure’s leadership and we are thankful to the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and its integrity. The Labour Party will continue to remain united and focused on its mission to promote the welfare of the Nigerian people.

“We, in the North Central Labour Party, have always believed that the Abure-led committee is on the side of the law and will definitely prevail, and I must say that we are all very happy with the judgement because we know that our National Chairman (Abure) has great plans for the party”.

Idoko further appealed to all aggrieved members of the party to put aside their differences and settle all the issues amicably in order to ensure victory for the party during the 2027 general elections.

“At this point, we want to call on all aggrieved party members and intending members of the party to sheath their swords and join hands with the Abure-led committee to build our party as we prepare to rescue Nigeria in the 2027 general elections”, he said.
