The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has secured a three-year title sponsorship agreement worth $7.5 million with Poland-based investment and technology company EuroMatch Group, ending the league’s decade-long wait for a headline sponsor.
The agreement, unveiled by the NPFL board in Abuja on Wednesday ahead of the 2026/27 season, is valued at $2.5 million annually.
Under the deal, 60 per cent of the annual sponsorship revenue, equivalent to $1.5 million, will be shared among the league’s 20 clubs.
EuroMatch Group, headquartered in Warsaw, is an investment and technology company focused on the regulated global gaming industry. Its portfolio includes Euromatch, a business-to-consumer sportsbook brand, and GB2B, a business-to-business gaming technology platform for licensed operators.
The company says it has licensed gaming operations in Nigeria and Kenya, while seeking regulatory approval to expand into other markets, including Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia and Mozambique.
The partnership marks the return of a title sponsor to Nigeria’s top-flight football competition for the first time since Globacom’s sponsorship ended in 2016.
Globacom’s final sponsorship agreement began during the 2012/13 season and continued until the 2016 Super Four competition. Following the end of the partnership, the League Management Company, which was then responsible for running the competition, adopted a multi-sponsor model instead of immediately securing a replacement title sponsor.
The league subsequently reverted to the NPFL name pending the arrival of a new title sponsor.
With $1.5 million of the annual sponsorship proceeds earmarked for the clubs, the 20 teams will collectively receive about N2.019 billion each season, based on an exchange rate of N1,344 to the dollar.
The precise formula for distributing the funds among the clubs has yet to be disclosed. However, the sharing arrangement could have implications for the proposed N1 billion prize money for the league champions from the 2026/27 season, following a proposition by the National Sports Commission.
NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye said the sponsorship would help improve the financial position of clubs and enhance the welfare of players.
“What we need is more visibility for the league. On our own part, we will continue to move on. Every season we are going to get about $2.5 million from EuroMatch for three years, that is $7.5 million,” Elegbeleye said.
He added that the increased revenue should translate into better remuneration for players, stressing that clubs would be required to ensure the funds allocated to them improved players’ welfare.
“The clubs will get 60 per cent of what we are doing and this must reflect in the welfare of our players,” he said.
Group Chairman of EuroMatch Group, Sadi Semih, described the agreement as a strategic investment in Nigerian football.
Semih said the company was committed to working with the NPFL and other stakeholders to ensure the partnership generated sustainable value and enhanced the international profile of the league.
The 2026/27 NPFL season is scheduled to begin on Friday with a South-West derby between five-time champions Shooting Stars and newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
