It’s Day 2 of the Super 6 of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), which will produce this season’s champions in the country’s top flight club football.

Defending champions Rivers United have set the pace in their determination to keep the title, leading the six-team table after recording the only win on Day 1. The Pride of Rivers beat Sunshine Stars through a penalty that appeared questionable.

Rivers will feature in the second match of the day at Mobolaji Johnson Arena on the Lagos Island against Remo Stars who shared honours with Enyimba on Matchday 1.

A second victory in the NPL championship play-off will strengthen Rivers’ position, while the Sky Blue Stars of Ikenne-Remo will be determine to achieve their first maximum points.

Rivers won Group B in the regular season of the abridged NPL, which ended recently; while Remo were second behind Bendel Insurance in Group A.

On the game, Remo Stars’ manager Stanley Eguma said: “Every game has different tactics. Remo Stars is not Sunshine Stars, Enyimba or Insurance, so as they come, we will bring out our tactical plans. We have our plans to face our next opponents”.

Rivers United have won 5 of the 6 meetings between both sides with only the latest meeting ending in a draw, which was on 30th January, last year. The game ended 1-1 in Ikenne-Remo.

Sensational Bendel Insurance could not break 1999 champions Lobi Stars on Matchday 1 as both combatants played goalless. Having set a record of unbeaten run in the league – achieved in the regular season – the focus of the Benin Arsenal is on winning the ultimate – the NPL title.

Insurance opponents, Sunshine Stars were unlucky to have lost to a disputed penalty in their opening match against Rivers United. Will they take revenge on Insurance?

Two former champions – Lobi Stars and Enyimba – will do battle in the first game of the day. As reported by Lobi Stars Media, Head coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru will press his men to be clinical in front of goals.
The Makurdi-based side will approach tomorrow’s tie with the needed intent focusing on a positive result.
Trusting his captain to stand in between the stick to coordinate affairs, following the absence of goalkeeper Daniel Emmanuel, the former Kano Pillars tactician would not hesitate to call on his lanky goalkeeper, Daniel Atsaka to partner Moses Tsehuan, whose combination with Kalu Orji proved solid at the back to thwart Insurance attacking threats.
Experience midfielder, Christian Madu will partner with Francis Odinaka to supply Joseph Atule and Abba Umar with the needed services during the proceedings.
Both teams will be meeting each other for the first time this season. Coach Finidi George of Enyimba will face a tough tackling side in an early kickoff tie tomorrow.
The gaffer will parade the likes of Emeka Obioma, Imoh Obot, and his Togolese goalkeeper Sabirou Bassa-Djeri, with the hope they are at their best to curtail the firepower of Ganaru’s lad’s.

All matches: Lobi Stars v Enyimba (2 pm), Rivers United v Remo Stars (4:30 pm), Bendel Insurance v Sunshine Stars (7 pm)
