The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has called on personnel of the Corps to prioritise their personal well-being and sustain physical energy to ensure operational efficiency.
Dr Odumosu made the call after leading officers and men of the command on a 10-kilometre route march across the FCT on Saturday.
According to a statement by the command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the exercise, which began at the FCT Command Headquarters, took the personnel through Wuse Market, Wuse Zone 3, Wuye Bridge by NAFDAC, Berger Junction, and back to the headquarters.
Speaking after the march, the commandant noted that the initiative was designed not only to build endurance and strengthen teamwork but also to reinforce the spirit of comradeship that defines military and paramilitary services globally.
‘Today’s exercise is also in line with our resolve to reposition the FCT Command for optimal service delivery.
‘Beyond routine duties, physical training and periodic route march prepare officers to meet emerging security threats with strength and confidence, it is a reminder that readiness is not a one-time act but a continuous commitment to discipline and self-improvement.
‘This route march is a reflection that we are fit and ready to combat vandals and ensure that we pursue them completely out of the FCT’, he declared.
The statement noted that the commandant praised the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the officers during what he described as the “maiden edition” of the exercise.
Reaffirming his commitment to the Corps’ mandate, Dr Odumosu emphasised collaboration with stakeholders in maintaining peace and security in the capital territory.
‘We will continue to work with other security agencies, communities, and stakeholders to ensure peace, safety, and the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the FCT,” he said.
Deputy Commandant of Corps and Acting Director of Sports at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Oladipo Lawal, also delivered a goodwill message at the event. He commended the FCT Commandant’s initiative and encouraged the continuation of such exercises, saying it would improve overall performance.
The statement added that the 10-kilometre route march ended with medical checks, massages, and recreational games, including tug of war, table tennis, hand wrestling, and the traditional Ayo game.
The NSCDC FCT Command had deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure a hitch-free 65th Independence Day celebration in Abuja and environs.
A statement on September 29, 2025, by the FCT command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, said the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, ordered the deployment to ensure adequate surveillance of the FCT.
