NSCDC rakes in N4.4b revenue from private guards as Audi’s tenure ends

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Audi, has said that the agency has been able to generate N4,476,437,000.86 from registration of Private Security Guards (PSGs), across Nigeria in the last five years of his tenure.

Audi made this known while addressing officers of the Corps during the commemoration of the 2026 World Civil Defence Day themed ‘Managing Environmental Risk for a Resilient and Sustainable Future’, yesterday in Abuja.

The CG whose five year tenure elapses following his appointment on March 1st 2021, revealed that the agency under his tenure has undergone serious reforms that saw it making remittance into Nigeria’s consolidated revenue accounted from income generated from the registration of PSGs among others.

He said that ‘The Corp has sanitized the private guards industry for effective and efficient performance through proper supervision and adequate monitoring.

‘Statistics provided from March 2021, 15,157 guards were trained nationwide. The amounts generated which we were asked to pay directly to the consolidated revenue account for the period under review is N4,476,437,000.86. 376 number of PSGs were registered, 893 awaiting license. 493 number of company sealed seal and 241 reopened.

He pointed that the NSCDC has in the last five years contributed to safeguarding Nigeria’s oil infrastructure by reducing crude oil theft and has destroyed 283 illegal refineries.

Audi noted that the NSCDC Commandant General‘s Special Intelligence Squad has since 2022 has made remarkable progress in in oil sector leading to increased protection of oil assets and infrastructure.

‘We have been able to establish a special intelligence squad to address the issues of oil bunkering, oil theft and vandalization of pipelines and power installations.

‘Between January 2022 and January 2026, 5,196 suspects were arrested by the special intelligence squad, 841 trucks seized, 305 individuals prosecuted while 1,781 are still undergoing prosecution’, the CG stated among others.

Regarding the recently established Mining Marshal Squad, the CG said the sector saw a quantum leap in terms of revenue generation from N6 billion to N 38 billion following the deployment of the marshals and their consequent protection of mining site and stamping out of illegal mining.

He also said over 48 school kidnapping attempts have been thwarted by the NSCDC Special Female Squad which has the tasks of safeguarding schools across Nigeria while the Agro Rangers set up during his tenure to protect farmers, farms and farmlands have also made inroad arresting 186 cattle rustlers and recovering 125 cattle and further safeguarding farms and farmers and settled over 1,000 disputes between farmers and herders.

Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Arguj Kalantarli, highlighted the importance of environmental risk management for national resilience and safeguarding of populations.

He called for partnership among governments and I international bodies for better coordinated evidence based approaches to tackling humanitarian crisis.

Represented by the CG, NSCDC, Kalantarli pointed that ‘Guided by the principle that prevention is protection, the ICTO continues to prioritize risk reduction before crises occur, strengthening national civil defence systems, enhancing preparedness, promoting training and innovations, and reinforcing international cooperation remain at the core of our activities.

‘Through these efforts, we seek to ensure inclusive protection and to uphold the safety and dignity of all people. In line with this year’s theme, the ICTO will continue to support member states in integrating environmental risk management into national resilience strategies and civil defence planning, ensuring coherence across prevention, preparedness, response, and response’.

He argued that ‘By addressing environmental risks with resolve and foresight, we can contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future for our societies and for future generations’.
