A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died after being knocked down and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
The corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the incident on Saturday, describing it as a tragic accident that occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill.
‘It is a very sad and unfortunate incident. We have lost her’, he said.
Footage circulating on social media showed the moment the officer was struck by the vehicle as it made a turn. The vehicle stopped shortly after the impact, while colleagues and bystanders rushed to lift it and pull her from underneath.
Emergency responders later arrived at the scene and evacuated the officer. However, she was pronounced dead despite efforts to save her life.
