The University of Ilorin has achieved another significant academic milestone, with 36 out of the 37 academic programmes it presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC) earning full accreditation. The 37th course (Hausa) received interim accreditation.
The outcome of the commission’s accreditation exercise, which was conducted last October and November, was communicated through a 30 April 2025 letter by NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
In a statement, the university’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Kunle Akogun said: ‘A breakdown of the results revealed that all 17 academic programmes from the Faculty of Education received full accreditation. Other faculties that recorded 100% success include Management Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Communication and Information Sciences.
‘In the Faculty of Arts, the Igbo programme was fully accredited, while Hausa was the only programme to receive interim status’.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole described the outcome as a source of pride and fulfilment for the university.
‘We are happy to be so recognised. We are indeed elated’, he said
He attributed the success to the university’s consistent investment in academic infrastructure and staff development, describing it as evidence of the institution’s commitment to quality education and service excellence.
He commended the efforts of the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and academic staff, assuring that the university would continue to aim for greater achievements.
‘We hope to continue positioning the University of Ilorin for more recognitions and improved performance’, Egbewole assured.
