Tributes are pouring in for the Photo Editor of The Guardian newspapers, Mr Femi Femi Adebesin-Kuti, who died on Friday morning at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
Popularly known as Eshin Funfun (white horse), Adebesin was an active member of both the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Photo Journalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN). He has been buried according to Islamic rites.
In his condolence message on Friday, Lagos State chapter chairman of the NUJ, Mr Adeleye Ajayi said: “We received the sad news of the passing of our dear brother, Femi Adebesin-Kuti, Photo Editor of The Guardian newspapers which occurred in the early hours of today with great shock.
“We pray that God in his infinite mercy will uphold and stand by his immediate family and friends at this trying time as we sympathise with members of The Guardian Newspapers Chapel and the entire PJAN family.
“May God continue to protect the rest of us and show up for us in our time of need”.
For the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Gboyega Akosile, Adebesin-Kuti was a “thoroughbred professional who discharged his duty diligently and contributed to the growth and development of journalism in Nigeria, especially in photojournalism”.
Akosile commiserated with the deceased family, friends and colleagues, especially the management and staff of The Guardian Newspapers, the NUJ and PJAN over the death of the veteran photojournalist.
“Mr Femi Adebesin-Kuti was a diligent and thoroughbred professional. I know him personally and his death was a shock to me but we take solace in the Almighty God that he lived a fulfilled life.
“He contributed his quota to the growth and development of journalism in Nigeria, especially in photojournalism where he rose to the position of Photo Editor of The Guardian newspapers. He was a thoroughbred professional.
“My personal experience with Mr Femi Adebesin-Kuti showed a man that was diligent and committed to his work. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, associates and colleagues. I pray that God will comfort and grant him eternal rest and grant his immediate family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, Akosile prayed.
