It was an evening of celebration, old friendships and high-society encounters in Lagos as businessman and founder of Chisco Group, Chidi Anyaegbu, marked his 70th birthday.
The platinum jubilee celebration brought together family, friends, well-wishers, prominent Nigerians, politicians and business leaders, among others.
The event was held at The Delborough Lagos, where the venue was transformed with elaborate floral arrangements, lighting, chandeliers and portraits of the celebrant.
The evening was as much about Anyaegbu’s milestone as it was about the personalities who turned up to honour him.
One of the memorable moments came when former President Olusegun Obasanjo and veteran entertainer, Charly Boy, shared a light-hearted exchange that drew laughter from guests.
In a video from the event, Obasanjo, dressed in traditional blue attire and holding a microphone, called out to Charly Boy, who appeared in his distinctive fashion style. Their playful exchange quickly became one of the talking points of the celebration.
Charly Boy also attracted attention with his outfit. The veteran entertainer made a dramatic entrance in a pink pleated skirt and matching pink blazer, an appearance that generated reactions on social media.
The celebrant opted for a white two-piece suit, dark trousers and a matching bow tie.
His entrance was another highlight of the evening. Apparently surprised by the number of people who had turned up to celebrate with him, Anyaegbu walked into the hall smiling alongside his wife.
The septuagenarian went around greeting his guests, shaking hands and exchanging warm felicitations.
The birthday celebration, however, extended beyond the glitz and glamour of the society gathering. In keeping with the milestone, Anyaegbu incorporated a philanthropic initiative into the celebrations.
He donated two Mercedes-Benz buses to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ikoyi, to assist with transporting awaiting-trial inmates to court. The buses have a combined capacity of up to 100 people, subject to approved seating and security arrangements.
Chisco Group also committed to supporting automotive skills training for eligible inmates, with the aim of helping them acquire employable skills and improve their prospects after release.
Anyaegbu said the decision to support the custodial centre was deliberate, describing it as a response to a practical challenge affecting access to justice.
Guests were treated to sumptuous meals and drinks, including cocktails and wines, while music filled the venue and the celebrant and his guests showed off their dance moves.
