Edo State government has condemned the rape and murder of a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Glory Adekolure, who was allegedly raped and killed in Iyowa Community, Benin City on Monday.

Adekolure, aged 22, was said to have been on her way home from processing her clearance, when she was tortured and raped to death by yet-to-be-identified persons, and her remains dropped close to her mother’s house.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, yesterday, Obaseki expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

Nehikhare noted that the governor has ordered the state Commissioner of Police (CP) to fish out the perpetrators of the act in seven days

The statement read: “The Edo State Government is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a fresh graduate of UNIBEN, who was allegedly raped and killed by yet-to-be-identified persons in Iyowa Community, within the Benin metropolis.

“It is most disheartening to hear of the sad incident and the state government condemns, in the strongest terms, the dastardly and unconscionable act.

“The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, expresses his deep-felt condolences to the family of the victim and has ordered the state Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory and fish out the perpetrators of the heinous and mindless act within the next seven days”.

Adekolure was said to have left home for the institution for her clearance on 13 June 2024, but returned lifeless.

A social media user, who tweets from @softbaba24, claimed the deceased, who was his younger sister, was returning home from school when the incident happened.
