The former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has felicitated with the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Ugochukwu Nnemeka Achebe, over his 20th anniversary on the throne.
Although Igwe Achebe was coronated on 14th May 2002, the commemoration comes up today and tomorrow at Ime Obi, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Obiano said: This is one remarkable celebration by Igwe Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, who over these years ensured innovative leadership of the ancient monarchy while not compromising its cultural values.
“He has reigned with relative peace and above all in good health.
“Igwe Achebe’s leadership, which extended beyond his immediate domain, has brought tremendous respect to the monarchy not only in Anambra State but the South East and beyond.
“His commitment to the growth and development of political and cultural advancement has ensured the relevance of traditional institutions in the modern governance structure.
“Agbogidi has indeed developed a modern palace and ceremonial grounds with luxuriant green vegetation, in line with Sustainable Development Goals.
“Onitsha as a commercial nerve centre has remained culturally relevant within a cosmopolitan setting.
“It is Indeed one of the most welcoming cities in the world. I must thank you most immensely as I enjoyed a very healthy work relationship with you and your subjects throughout my 8-year tenure as Governor”.
