A former aspirant to the Ughell North/Udu/Ughelli North federal constituency seat, Mr Tive Denedo has congratulated the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his victory at the Supreme Court.

On Friday, the Supreme Court, in a unanimous verdict of a five-member panel, declared Oborevwori the authentic Delta State candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election.

Oborevwori’s rival in the PDP primary, Olorung David Edevbie had challenged the Appeal Court judgment, which endorsed the Speaker’s candidacy. The apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal was right to conclude that the suit filed by Edevbie was wrongly commenced by way of originating summons rather than by writ of summons.

In a statement over the weekend, Denedo described the Supreme Court verdict as not just the victory for Oborevwori, but for the democratic process in Nigeria. According to him the verdict has demonstrated that dissent in party politics could be contained and resolved amicably through the instrumentality of the law to the benefit of parties in disagreement.

He encouraged Oborevwori to be magnanimous in victory and find the space to accommodate Edevbie in his campaign programmes, saying that it is crucial that everyone one, including those on the side of Edevbie should come together for the battle of the general elections in 2023.

Denedo is optimistic that the signal of Oborevwori’s victory is an indication that the obstacles ahead in mustering votes for victory across the state could easily be overcome in 2023.

He called on the supporters of Oborevwori and Edevbie to work together for the party in the spirit of love in brotherhood and excellent sportsmanship.

“When all members of the party work together in unity, there is no obstacle or contention that the force of love and unity cannot sweep aside and bring about victory”, Denedo counselled.

He also showed his appreciation for the role of the state governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa who demonstrated through his utterances that no one was vanquished in this contest of opposing political beliefs within the state’s PDP family.
