The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the detention of four suspected killers of a herder whose body was dismembered at Ijagunre village in the Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the state.

The Amotekun Corps in the state arrested two of the suspects last week and handed them over to the police.

It was also reported that two others were nabbed by the Oyo State Police Command and were later handed over to their Ogun State counterpart for prosecution.

On Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the detention of the four suspects – Akinyele Adebayo, Gbalo Idosu, Abiala Segun and Kareem Lana – arrested in connection with the death and dismembering of the herder, Umaru Aliyu.

Oyeyemi said their arrest followed a complaint lodged by one Umaru Jakake, who reported that while he and his late brother were grazing their cattle at Ijagunre village, they were accosted by a farmer who warned them not to take their cattle near his farm.

Jakake was quoted as saying that after they relocated their cattle, the farmer later called two other men who started chasing them in the bush.

He said while he managed to escape, his brother’s whereabouts had been unknown since then.

The PPRO said an investigation carried out by the command’s homicide section, led by Superintendent Kehinde Beyioku led to the arrest of the suspects while the farmer was still at large.

“The deceased’s head and other body parts have been recovered by the policemen”, Oyeyemi added.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, who commended the homicide team for the investigation, had ordered a manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang.

He added that the CP also ordered that the arrested suspects will be charged in court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
