The Ogun State Government has sealed Arolat Petrol Station in Abeokuta, over water pollution.

The State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, sealed the petrol station over the weekend following a petition received by Foursquare Gospel Church located beside the Petrol Station in Abeokuta.

The church alleged that the fuel station had contaminated its well which was the only source of water supply with no harmful Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) substances in the area.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, Farouk Akintunde, noted that action was taken pending the conclusion of investigation to ascertain the level of underground water pollution alleged to have been caused by its activities in the area.

He added that they will also identify the level of the chemical contamination in all water ground in the area, extent of the contamination and would establish the present underground water status, towards ensuring the wellness and well-being of all residents of the area.

Akintunde said,’ As a responsive and responsible Government’s Agency, we have to be proactive, since the safety and over all wellbeing of our people are paramount and must not be compromised for any reason’.
