Nottingham Forest have been deducted four points for breaching the English Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, causing them to drop into the danger zone.
Forest are now one point behind Luton Town, which have claimed the 17th position.
The EPL is expected to make an official statement about the matter.
Two Super Eagles stars – Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi – feature for Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are likely to file an appeal as they were charged with a breach of financial regulations during the January transfer window.
Although the club accepted the financial breach, their defence was based on ‘extenuating circumstances’ relating to the sale of forward Brennan Johnson last summer.
The news of the points deduction could negatively impact the team’s morale and their fight to avoid relegation, which is becoming more challenging.
