Olukoya named LOC Chairman for African Armwrestling Championship

The Board of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation on Monday appointed Navy Commodore Mayowa Olukoya as the Chairman, Local Organising Committee for the 2022 African Armwrestling Championship.

The Championship, tagged “Nigeria 2022”, the 11th edition and will be hosted in Lagos from 19th to 24th July to 24, this year.

Nigeria in 2017 hosted the 8th edition in Lagos.

The Federation held an Extraordinary Emergency Meeting in Lagos where Olukoya, who is the Federation’s Vice President was named together with its Media Director, Mr Dapo Sotuminu, as Vice President of the LOC.

Commodore Olukoya, the Vice president of the Armwrestling Federation, will work with Hon. Dapo Sotuminu, the Federation’s Director of Media, who was also appointed the Vice Chairman of the LOC.

For the African championship, a member of the African Armwrestling Federation Medical Commission, Dr Bukola Bojuwoye, who is also a renowned Nigerian sports medicine expert, was appointed, the Chairman, Medical Committee; Assistant Suprentendent of Police Sunday Kazy, the Federation’s Secretary-General, was appointed, the Secretary of the LOC.

Other appointments made included the Chairman, Protocol and Ceremonial Committee, Ms. Ijeoma Soribe, who has just been elected athletes representative in the federation, while the Head of Marketing is Mr Kehinde Adegbile.

The Federation’s Technical Director, Mr Femi Akinsanya, was appointed the Head of Technical Committee for the championship.

According to the Federation’s President, Engr. Samuel Jackson, who is also the President of the African federation, disclosed that Nigeria would present 80 athletes for the championship with the objective of winning the overall title.
