The eldest daughter of the late gospel singer, Omije Ojumi, has delivered a heartfelt tribute to her mother, portraying her as a woman of strength and virtue who remained committed to her family despite the difficulties she faced in her marriage.
Speaking at the service of songs held in the singer’s honour on Wednesday, her daughter, Jomiloju, reflected on her mother’s unwavering presence in their lives, noting that she consistently stood by her children even at times when their father was not around.
She explained that Ojumi was deeply driven by the desire to raise disciplined and responsible children, determined that they would not repeat what she believed were her own mistakes in marriage.
‘She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t’, she said during her tribute.
‘Her focus was to make sure we turned out responsible and did better than she did in her marital journey’.
Jomiloju added that her mother placed great importance on education, making sacrifices to enrol her children in the best schools she could afford as a way of securing their future.
In an emotional moment, she also made a public vow to honour her mother’s wishes by looking after her younger brother and guiding him in the right path.
‘I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother’, she said. ‘He will be the prayer warrior and responsible son she wanted him to be, not like’.
