Nigerian songstress, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems was nominated for the 2023 edition of the Oscars in the category of Best Original Song courtesy of a collaboration she had on the song, “Lift Me Up” with popular singer, Rihanna; music producer, Ludwig Göransson; and Black Panther’s director, Ryan Coogler.
The award ceremony is taking place at the Dolby Theatre, Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, US.
Her dress was literally the talk of the night. While she looked absolutely angelic, social media was quick to comment on her massive halo. Some even expressed their sympathy for those who had to sit behind her.
“Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud,” one Twitter user wrote.
“I feel bad for everyone sitting behind Tems 😭,” another person said.
However, Naatu Naatu from the hit Telugu-language film RRR has won the Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars award.
It made history by becoming the first Indian film song to win an Oscar.
The blockbuster track beat superstar Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ which was co-written by fellow nominee and Nigerian songstress, Tems to the gong.
Accepting the award, composer MM Keeravani said the song was “the pride of every Indian”.
