Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, saying he would not spend time discussing the former Minister of Transportation.
Oshiomhole made the remarks during an interview on TVC while reacting to Amaechi’s comments on the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi had argued that President Bola Tinubu faced stronger opposition from the South, while former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had fewer challengers because he was from the North.
Responding, Oshiomhole said: “If you know Amaechi, you won’t waste airtime talking about him.”
The former Edo State governor also questioned Amaechi’s political consistency, referring to an alleged dispute between him and Atiku over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary.
Oshiomhole claimed that Amaechi had accused Atiku of emerging from a fraudulent primary and subsequently challenged his victory in court.
He further alleged that Atiku later reached an agreement with Amaechi over the disputed mandate, adding that court documents were available to support his claims.
Oshiomhole also recalled Amaechi’s emergence as Rivers State governor following a Supreme Court ruling and his subsequent appointment as a minister by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
According to the senator, those developments illustrated what he considered inconsistencies in Amaechi’s political career.
He also criticised Amaechi over his comments describing other political figures as ethnic champions while presenting himself as different from them during the ADC presidential primary process.
“He referred to Atiku as an ethnic champion. He referred to every other person as an ethnic champion. He was the only non-ethnic champion in the ADC before their primaries,” Oshiomhole said.
The senator questioned Amaechi’s credibility in commenting on leadership and politics in a diverse country such as Nigeria, given his criticisms of other political figures.
